The city has a reputation for being a pilgrimage destination for Muslims, but it is also a favorite stop-off for water sports fans and foodies, with excellent restaurants serving up exquisite cuisine. This is due to a strong rule of law and an active military presence, which has helped keep terrorist attacks to a minimum.
