SINGAPORE – A construction worker was killed when the second floor of a building collapsed at a site off Anson Road in central Singapore on Thursday afternoon (June 15). The collapse happened at a site where Fuji Xerox Towers is being demolished. A portion of the second floor fell inwards onto Bernam Street.
The building’s owner said the site will remain closed until a full inspection can be carried out to determine the cause of the collapse. No other injuries were reported.

SINGAPORE — The Urban Redevelopment Authority has put a Bernam Street residential-with-commercial land parcel up for tender, with about 75 more dwelling units than estimated previously under the first half 2019 Government Land Sales (GLS) programme. The 99-year leasehold site is located between Enggor Street and Bernam Street, next to Anson House, and is on the GLS confirmed list.
The name Bernam is derived from the Old English words burna, meaning stream or river, and ham, meaning homestead or farmstead. It is a common surname found throughout England, and is also shared by people of Dutch descent.
