Valworx now offers a line of stainless steel explosion-proof wafer body and lug ductile iron butterfly valves with electric (On-Off/ Positioner) and pneumatic actuation. All valves are tested before shipment to ensure trouble free operation.
The explosion proof electric actuator is easy to mount using standard ISO 5211 multi-flange mounting and double square drive. It features visual and electrical valve position indication, manual override and weatherproof enclosure.
Wafer Body Butterfly Valve
Butterfly valves are efficient, reliable, and cost-effective solutions for fluid flow control in various industrial applications. However, proper installation and maintenance are necessary to optimize performance, minimize downtime, and extend longevity.
With a wafer body design, these valves slide between pipe flanges and are held in place by flange bolts that surround the body. This design reduces overall material costs and allows for easier assembly. Wafer-style valves also offer a low-pressure drop and precise position sensing, making them an ideal choice for use in many systems.
When installing wafer body butterfly valves, it is important to properly align the bolt holes and apply the correct torque in a star-shaped pattern. Over-torquing or applying excess pressure can cause damage to the lugs and weaken the integrity of the valve. Additionally, it is important to test the valve after installation by fully opening and closing it several times. This will confirm that the valve is functioning correctly.
Lug Body Butterfly Valve
Lug body butterfly valves are used in a variety of applications, from oil and gas pipeline systems to HVAC systems for homes and businesses. They can handle high temperatures and operate reliably under a variety of pressure conditions, making them a good choice for many different types of fluids.
However, it’s important to evaluate the physical constraints of your installation site when selecting a valve. For example, lug body valves require more bolts for installation than wafer-style butterfly valves, which can affect your installation time and costs. Additionally, maintenance requirements and total cost of ownership should also be considered when choosing a valve.
Unlike the Wafer style, the lug body has several holes around its perimeter into which flange bolts can be screwed. This design allows the valve to sandwich between flanges, which makes it easy to install and remove from the pipe line. Moreover, the lug body has “ears” over its entire circumference into which threads can be screwed.
Flange Valve
The dual-certified low-emission/fire safe 2-piece ANSI 150lb stainless steel flanged ball valve mounts between standard flanges eliminating the need for pipe threads and is ideal for on/off control of water, air, oil and gas. This investment cast valve features a quarter turn latch-lock handle and a removable hand lever that can be replaced with an electric actuator using the industry standard ISO5211 direct mounting pad.
The explosion proof electric actuator utilizes a continuous electrical signal to operate and rotate the output drive. The motor turns the output drive 90deg to open or close the flanged ball valve. When power is off, the valve returns to its last known position. The rugged all metal design and unique integral motor/housing offer higher torque in a smaller package.
The UL listed explosion proof electric actuator is powered-to-open and power-to-close, stays in the last known position with loss of power. Optional auxiliary dry contact limit switches confirm open and closed valve positions and a thermostatically controlled anti-condensation heater prevents damage caused by condensation.
Electric Actuator
In addition to deciding on the type of actuator, it’s important to consider the control requirements and environment where the actuator will be used. A good way to compare different electric actuators is by looking at their load capacity, which determines how much force they can generate.
When deciding on an electric actuator, it’s also important to take into account its speed, or stroke length, which determines how far the actuator can travel. A low stroke length means the actuator will move more slowly, while a long stroke means it will be able to move farther.
Valworx now offers explosion-proof actuation for their wafer body and lug ductile iron butterfly valves. They feature visual and electrical valve position indication, manual override and a weatherproof enclosure. They are also certified for use in areas where flammable gases may be present. The explosion-proof electric actuator is powered by a continuous voltage signal and via a self-locking gear drive rotates the ball to either open or close the valve. A rechargeable battery keeps the motor running and sends the failsafe actuator to a pre-set position on loss of power.Valworx Explosion-Proof
